I greatly enjoy watching my students roam around campuses, meeting current students of respectable universities, and, the most important, starting to see themselves as students of, per say, Harvard, Princeton, or Stanford!
University campuses are some of the most beautiful architectural places in the United States. The founders of universities donated fortunes, seeking to immortalize themselves.
It is certainly impressive, yet not the primary focus of the tours. In my experience, encouragement, motivation and energy that a current student can inspire in a teenager is often the key for future successful application.
Campus tours provide opportunity for:
1. Better understanding of a particular campus.
2. Personally interact and get a first hand impressions from a current student.
3. Discuss your application ideas with an accepted students.
4. Acquire insight and motivation.
5. Discuss your major choice and doubts with a recent high schooler who is now a college student.
Many families tour several colleges in a row. Comparison is immensely beneficial for understanding your own wishes and preferences.
Finally, those tours proven to inspire teenagers and motivate them to work harder pursuing their dream school!
